Advertisements are all around us. They are on billboards, on television, in movies, on the radio, in magazines, and on youtube. They pop up on your computer and are posted to the sides of buses. Their goal is to change your behavior and to change your mind. They attempt to get you to purchase their products and to buy into their ideas.
One of the ways in which they do this is by presenting the consumer a narrative, which contains a persuasive message: real men drink this beer, beautiful women wear these clothes, independent thinkers use this product. The persuasiveness of these ads is embedded in and makes use of an ideological system, which is promoted and actualized through the story of the advertisement.
