CASE STUDY Apple Inc: Performance in a Zero-Sum World EconomyON NOVEMBER1, 2010, JOHN TARPEY, SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST at a securitiesfirm, was sitting at his conference table to begin the task of fully analyzing the 2010 financialperformance and strategic strategies of Apple Inc. On his table were hundreds of articles, reports,SEC documents, and company documents. The basic question he sought answers to with this in-depth analysis was how Apple’s performance continued to be out-standing, while the world andU.S. economy was flat to negative.A second, and more important question, was if Apple could sustain this high level ofperformance and major innovation. Exhibit 1 shows unit sales by key products, net sales by thesame products, net sales by the company’s operating segments, and Mac unit sales by operatingsegments. John noted that there were nine positive increases versus three negative ones. He sawthat the positive increases outnumbered the negative changes by three to one. In 2010, there wereonly three negative changes compared with nine changes for 2009. Net sales of desktopcomputers were up 43% in 2010, compared with a 23% drop in sales in 2009.John considered Apple’s Consolidated Statement of Operations (see Exhibit 2) and BalanceSheet (see Exhibit 3).[SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO]

Critical Thinking: Case Study Analysis (105 Points) Kizza (2014) largely treated cyber-attacks as “cybercrime,” conveying the assumption that these attacks are by definition illegitimate and criminal. However, he occasionally seems to recognize that there might be motives that are more ambiguous and may have a social, moral, or political basis. Lessig (2006) also referred to Internet hacker ethic as rebellious and libertarian and not always criminal in a moral sense. One example cited by Kizza (2014) is the Seattle WTO protest and mass computer attacks that are “increasingly being used to avenge what the attackers consider to be injustices” (p. 97). Another example we discussed was the Stratfor attack. Also, recently we see many examples of cyber security invasions by governments and corporations. Search the Internet to find an example of a hacking activity or situation that represents a morally, ethically, or criminally ambiguous situation but is different from any examples you used in other assignments for this course. Write a critical essay that addresses the following items: Cite and briefly describe your example. Apply what you have learned from the course to this point to identify arguments both in support of and critical of the behavior of the attackers. Describe and explain the relationships among morality, ethics, law, and crime as they intersect in the case example that you have found. Cite Winner’s “Do Artifacts Have Politics?” to identify and explain the political, moral, and ethical choices and consequences that may be embedded in technical choices and artifacts described in your example. Discuss and cite the article “Do Artifacts Have Politics?”, the source of your example, and at least one additional credible or scholarly source other than the course textbook to support your analysis and positions. You may cite the course textbooks as well if you wish. Use APA style guidelines, citing references as appropriate. Your paper should be two to three pages in length. Before submitting your final version, be sure to submit a draft version to the TurnItIn Checker on the Colorado Platform.

Introduction to Cases and Suggested Questions BUS 172A (Investment Analysis) Table&of&Contents& 1. BETA MANAGEMENT CO….

DescriptionA manager of a small investment company has been successfully using indexfunds for limited market timing. Growth has allowed her to move into pickingstocks. She is considering two small and highly variable listed stocks, but isconcerned about the risk that these investments might add to her “portfolio.”Provides a lead-in to the CAPM. Students learn about total risk, non-diversifiableor portfolio risk, and (CAPM) beta, and calculate variability of the stocksseparately, and portfolio variance with and without the stocks, to see how anextremely risky (but low-beta) stock actually reduces risk; and calculate stockbetas.Assignment Questions1. Calculate the variability (standard deviation) of the stock returns ofCalifornia REIT and Brown Group during the past 2 years. How variableare they compared with Vanguard Index 500 Trust? Which stock appearsto be riskiest?2. Suppose Beta’s position had been 99% of equity funds invested in theindex fund, and 1% in the individual stock. Calculate the variability (bystandard deviation) of this portfolio using each stock. How does each stockaffect the variability of the equity investment, and which stock is riskiest?Explain how this makes sense in view of your answer to Question #1above.3. Perform a regression of each stock’s monthly returns on the Index returnsto compute the “beta” for each stock. How does this relate to the situationdescribed in Question #2 above?4. If Ms. Wolfe’s sole purpose is to minimize the portfolio risk, then whichstock is her choice?CautionVanguard index fund is the same as market portfolio. When executing regression procedure do not the excess returns (rawreturn – riskfree rate) but use the raw returns due to the lack of risk-freereturn data.

All papers must include a works cited. You must use the books you chose for class. Please use more of your own analysis. Anything with 40 percent or more similarity to another assignment will not be graded. The refugee crisis has been discussed widely, but only a few news outlets are focusing on the dramatic impact of women and girls. In a 20 slide presentation or 7 page paper, you are to discuss the daily life women refugees. First, examine the journey of those currently crossing into Europe and the challenges, and risks that they face during the journey and second, examine the plight of those who are currently residing at a refugee camp or asylum center. What is daily life like? What are the options to work or be a part of the new society they are in? What social services or benefits are provided to refugees? What are some of the public health issues and education issues they face? Will they ever get a chance to go back home? After researching these issues, offer one or two solid recommendations for how every day people can help refugees in a concrete way.
