Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the following required articles:
• “Relations Between Inductive Reasoning and Deductive Reasoning”
• “The Effect of the Environment (Real and Virtual) and The Personality on the Speed
of Decision Making”
• “Decision-Making Theories and Models: A Discussion of Rational and Psychological
Decision-Making Theories and Models: The Search for a Cultural-Ethical DecisionMaking
Model”
• “Seven Basic Steps to Solving Ethical Dilemmas in Special Education: A DecisionMaking
Framework”

Play the expert in the following scenario and apply ethical principles and professional
standards of decision-making to your rationale and actions:
• You are a counseling psychologist in a state prison. You have been counseling a new
inmate, and he confided in you that one of the other inmates has indicated he is
considering suicide. He does not divulge the name of the other inmate and refuses
to talk any further about the issue. Consider the following steps in your decisionmaking
process:
o Define the problem.
o Explore the alternatives.
o Consider the consequences.
o Identify ethical considerations.
o Determine how you would reduce bias in your decision-making process.
o Explain your decision.
Using appropriate citations and references, explain how the empirical research and
theoretical models presented in the assigned articles suggest the importance of
applying decision-making strategies in one’s own practice. Support your argument with
empirical research.
Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least
three of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post
your required replies early each week to stimulate more meaningful and interactive
discourse. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard
Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.
Be sure to also respond to your instructor’s comments to you in this forum by Day 7.
Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your
responses. Peer responses may vary in length but should be elaborate, detailed, and
thought provoking.
What suggestions do your peers make that are well supported? Does your peer’s
explanation provide a complete and elaborate understanding of decision-making and
learning environments? What clarifications would you recommend? As the expert, does
your peer address the potential problems that you personally might face as a “new
recruit”? What suggestions do you recommend?

BA 435 SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT 2 ⦁ (30 Points) Consider the capacity planning problem of Baxter Pharmaceuticals

BA 435 SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENTBA 435 SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENTASSIGNMENT 2⦁ (30 Points)  Consider the capacity planning problem of Baxter Pharmaceuticals. They produce Vaxidene, a drug used to treat meningitis. Suppose that each employee can produce 100 doses of product per month. The number of employees at the end of Month 0 is 40, the inventory is 1000.  The strategic capacity is 4,000 doses per month (i.e. 40 workers). The production cost is $50 per unit, the overtime cost is $60 per unit (no limit on overtime), the inventory carrying cost is $20 per unit/month, the hiring cost is $500 and firing cost is $1000. The managers of the company have the following restrictions:⦁ The inventory level must never fall below 100 doses in each month and the ending inventory at the end of month 12 must be 1000.⦁ The company should start and end with 40 workers.⦁ One cannot hire or fire more than 5 employees per month. The demand forecast for each month of the next year is given in the Table below.Month Demand Employees required to meet dem. Actual Employees Regular Production OvertimeProduc. Hirings Layoffs Ending Inventory1 3700 2 2500 3 3600 4 3900 5 3800 6 3700 7 4200 8 4500 9 4000 10 3700 11 2800 12 3600
Formulate the above problem using LP formulation and solve using Excel Solver. Then, fill in the above Table according to the LP solution. What do you conclude regarding the best capacity planning strategy of this firm? Does it resemble a level strategy or a chase strategy (or neither)? What do you suggest this company about possible expansion plans?2. (30 points) Consider the revenue management problem of an airline. They need to decide how many tickets to sell to four customer classes, who arrive in the order of their price rate. The price and demand information for the customer classes are as given below (assume demand is normally distributed for all customer classes).
Demand Parametersj 1 1200 30 52 900 50 103 800 60 104 500 100 20
a) If the capacity of the airplane is 200, find how many seats must be reserved for each customer class using EMSR-b heuristic.b) Suppose the demands turn out to be D4=80, D3=45, D2=58, and D1=32. How many seats of the plane remain empty? What is the total revenue of this flight?3. (20 points) Vaxidene is a drug that is very critical in treatment of meningitis, and there can be possible epidemics in the area. It is expected that the demand for Vaxidene in 2019 in the entire Arizona state (and the probability of each scenario) will be as follows:Low demand 30,000 doses With probability 0,2Medium demand 60,000 doses With probability 0,7High demand 80,000 doses With probability 0,1
In the current manufacturing facility, Baxter Pharmaceuticals can produce up to 50,000 doses per year. The cost of producing a single dose is $16 and each dose sells at a price of $30. However, the company is also considering the expansion opportunity: By investing in larger, more technologically advanced equipment, it is possible to increase the production capacity to 80,000 per year. Also the variable cost of producing a single Vaxidene dose decreases by this investment, to a level of $15. However, the expansion requires a fixed cost of $300,000.Evaluate the two alternatives by using a decision tree. Which alternative is a better option? Does the selection change if you want to minimize the worst possible outcome (i.e. minimax criterion is used) or maximize the best possible outcome (i.e. maximax criterion is used)?
4. (20 points) Since the human lives are too important to be sacrificed for monetary considerations, the government decided that it will subsidize the Baxter Pharmaceuticals for the production of this drug, provided that there is sufficient capacity and efficient delivery to the areas that are in need. Therefore, the company decides to expand the capacity. However, the distribution network is still prone to suspicions. In particular, the company needs to develop a logistics network in order to serve cities of Arizona state in a fast and effective way. The biggest cities of Arizona state, their regions and populations are given in the following table.City Region PopulationPhoenix Maricopa 1,500,000Tucson Pima 500,000Chandler Maricopa 250,000Glendale Maricopa 225,000Yuma Yuma 100,000
The factory of Baxter Pharmaceuticals Co. is located in Phoenix. Its main suppliers are in Phoenix (the suppliers of chemical C and D), in New York (the supplier of chemical B) and in China (the supplier of chemical A). Baxter does not own a warehouse currently, but the company managers are thinking of owning one if the logistics strategy dictates it to be so.Provide a report to the top management involving the analysis about strategic logistics decisions (i.e. the decisions about the selection of the most appropriate transportation mode, warehousing locations and other strategies) to achieve the goal of a fast and effective service.

How extensive are the services and programs that are available to the elderly in your area?

How extensive are the services and programs that are available to the elderly in your area? This assignment involves doing some extensive research to find out. Start with the agency that coordinates publicly funded aging services in your area – they should be able to provide you with a lot of information and resources. You can use your local library, media, internet services and the brochures and other informational material that agencies distribute as references though I would like you to visit at least two agencies and interview at least two service providers.
Compile this information and summarize it in a report, describing the various services in detail and critically evaluating them and the system based on what you have learned during this course about the supports that elderly people need to maintain a high quality of life. Are there gaps in available services? If you were an elderly person, would you know what programs were available and how to access them? How likely would you be to use them and why? Discuss your specific ideas for improvement, especially as you consider the changing demographics and roles of elders in our society.
Self-Assessment Check List:
Does this report present an accurate, complete and useful list of resources available in your area. This might be your county, town, city or even borough if you live in a large metro area?
Did you identify all of your sources; websites, pamphlets, etc.?
Is most of the information in the report in your own words?
Did you identify any quoted material and cite your sources?
Did you protect the confidentiality of your interviewees by not identifying them?
>Did you visit at least one agency and talk to at least two people who provide services in different programs?
Did you discuss adequacy and accessibility in depth, ie gaps in service, how well publicized services are and your ideas for improvement? Your original analysis is important.
This is to be an integrative, comprehensive report, tying together information from various readings and your original research. Proper citations of references, including brochures and websites are expected.
